“Teaching olive cultivation” Exhibition at PIOP’s Historical Archives

“Teaching olive cultivation” Exhibition at PIOP’s Historical Archives

The Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation (PIOP), in collaboration with the Agricultural University of Athens (A.U.A.), presents an exhibition on “Teaching olive cultivation” at its Historical Archives, located in the Tavros neighbourhood.

Curated by PIOP, the exhibition is based for its greater part on part of the collection of the Museum of Agriculture belonging to the Agricultural University of Athens. It is an exhibition on the history of science and more specifically of agricultural science, but also of the history of education with historical and ethnographic data on the production of olives and olive oil in Greece. It seeks to reproduce the atmosphere of the Arboriculture Workshop during the classes on Olive Cultivation by personifying the educational process through the figure of an inspired teacher, Emmanouíl Váthis.

The exhibition will run for two months and will then travel to the Museum of the Olive and Greek Olive Oil in Sparta and the Museum of Industrial Olive-Oil Production of Lesvos belonging to PIOP’s Museum Network. Appropriately adapted, it will then constitute a permanent exhibition dedicated to Emmanouíl Váthis in an area of the Agricultural University of Athens’ Museum of Agriculture.
