"Urban Tomography" Photo exhibition at Historical Archives

"Urban Tomography" Photo exhibition at Historical Archives

The Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation presents the touring exhibition "Urban Tomography" at its Historical Archives in Tavros, in the context of its annual "TheAthinai" event.

As all cities, Athens is being photographed at a frenzied pace. A huge number of amateur images accumulates on a daily basis, generating a veritable visual overload. At the same time, the need to engage with the urban landscape drives many photographers-artists to define anew their relationship with the metropolis.

The exhibition, curated by the journalist and writer Nikos Vatopoulos, aims at highlighting various views of the cityscape and focusing on personal interpretations of urban life, the Athenian matrix, and issues such as remembrance, co-existence, the historical palimpsest, the unseen life and the hidden elements of the capital city.

Thirty photographers, both well-known and younger artists, present their work and inspire new discussions about urban photography in 21st century Athens.

They are Dimitris Athinakis, Calliope Asargiotaki, Vasilis Gerontakis, Ilias Georgouleas, Athina Gritzala, Argyris Drolapas, George Thanos, Lizi Kalliga, Eni Koukoula, Cleopatra Kourlamba, Nikos Leontopoulos, Phanis Logothetis, Kostas Masseras, Dimitris Mytas, Anthimos Dangas, Anthi Xenaki, Stergios Papadakis, Alex Papaioannou, Io Paschou, Kostas Pittas, Constantin Pittas, Yannis Porfyropoulos, Vasilis Poularikas, Vangelis Poulis, Vasilis Protopapas, Tasos Salteris, Kyriakos Syfiltzoglou, Stathis Tzouvaras, Ilias Tsaousakis, Virginia Filippousi.

The exhibition runs from June 22 to September 29, 2019 (Monday - Friday 10:00-18:00)

Entry is free of charge for the public.
