This new volume not only enriches the publications of PIOP’s «Museology» series, but also constitutes a substantial approach to the theoretical and especially the practical issues that arise during the process of creating, running and managing a museum of modern standards. Massimo Negri focuses on company museums, which are a new dynamic presence in the museum world in Europe. The detailed presentation of the different categories of company museums, the conceptual base, i.e. the basic idea that inspires and distinguishes similar exhibitions, the norms and the framework of their activities, constitute the main points of study. At the same time, the museum environment and correct layout of the area are examined, these elements ensuring an unhindered and creative visit, while particular emphasis is given to approaching the public through the use of new technologies. The author also includes a commendable guide on company museums, while the text by Cristina Menegazzi covers issues of preventive conservation. Lastly, the Appendix presents a text by museologist Kenneth Hudson on the creation of visitor-friendly museums. Thus, this volume systematizes the practical aspects of a museum procedure’s organization, defines the main points of action of a company museum and proposes highly applicable solutions for dealing with a multitude of practical subjects.
