The Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation (PIOP), in cooperation with Anemon Productions, starting from Wednesday 12 February 2025, presents the photography exhibition Foodprint in the Museum of Industrial Olive-Oil Production of Lesvos.
On the theme of the Mediterranean diet and its importance for people's lives today, the exhibition links Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Cyprus and Croatia through the pictures taken by five European photographers who bring to life an ancient way of life and nutrition. This diet has been recognized by UNESCO as an element of the Intangible Heritage of Humanity due to its unique qualities. Based on frugality, sharing and seasonality, it provides solutions to some of the most critical problems facing the planet today such as the loss of biodiversity, food waste and climate change.
The photographs by Johann Clausen, Elena Heatherwick, Myrto Papadopoulou, Chris de Bode and Maria Contreras Coll depict the various aspects of the Mediterranean diet today. The exhibition in the Museum of Industrial Olive-Oil Production of Lesvos is part of the European tour that until now includes Italy, Cyprus, Turkey, Croatia, Albania, the National Museum of Contemporary Art (EMST) in Athens, the Environment Museum of Stymphalia in the mountainous region of Corinthia and the Museum of the Olive and Greek Olive Oil in Sparti.
In the framework of the exhibition, the documentary "The Perfect Meal", directed by Alexandros Merkouris, takes the viewer on a journey from Greece and Cyprus to Italy, Spain, France, England, Sweden and the USA, revealing the secrets of the Mediterranean diet and showing how and why this diet is considered one of the healthiest in the world and how it can contribute to tackling climate change. The documentary, 52 minutes long, will be available for screening to high school groups for the duration of the exhibition; entrance is free, and reservations are required.
In addition, in the context of this temporary exhibition, an educational workshop for primary school groups will be organized from Wednesday 19 February 2025 (at 10:00) and throughout the exhibition. Engaging in creative activities, young students will discover the values and multiple benefits of the Mediterranean diet and will also use colourful legumes to create impressive "mosaics". Participation in the workshop is free of charge, but previous coordination with the Museum is essential.
For more information about the exhibition and reservations for the screening and the workshop, schools can contact the Museum by calling 22530 32300 (daily, except Tuesday, 10:00-17:00).
