The Historical Archives of the Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation has incorporated and conserves the historical archives of banks that the Piraeus Bank Group absorbed, as well as the archives of important organizations and companies that were connected to them. In this manner, they contribute to the documentation and study of the economic history of Greece in the 20th century relating to agriculture, industry and the banking sector, including parameters of the social history of the time.
The main institutions and structures of the Greek economy, the country's agricultural and industrial policies over the decades, important aspects of the banking system, the efforts for the rehabilitation of the refugees from Asia Minor, the agricultural cooperative movement, the foreign aid Greece received after WWII and its management in the framework of the country’s economic reconstruction as well as the history of environment in Greece are some of the research topics that can be explored successfully in the Piraeus Bank Group's Historical Archives.
In the Piraeus Bank Group's Historical Archives you will find a significant number of collections, among which:

The Archives' material is constantly being enriched with new acquisitions made by the Piraeus Bank Group, or by individuals.
The Historical Archives of PIOP, offering free access to researches, is organized according to the international archival standards and is a member of the relevant Greek and international associations. Following the additional acquisition of the voluminous archival material of the former Agricultural Bank of Greece, and with the ambition that the Piraeus Bank Group's Historical Archives will live up to international best practices in the field, the reconstruction of a former industrial building in Tavros region (Athens) has been completed to host the reorganized Historical Archives department implementing a series of good practices (operational quality certification, environmental certification, civil liability and content insurance, crisis response plan for cultural heritage institutions). The premises host archive-related work as well as functions relevant to the research, academic and educational community and the wider public, seeking to share the historical and archival culture.

The PIOP Historical Archives, which follow an "open archive" policy providing access and reference services to researchers, is organized in accordance to international archival standards and is a member of Greek and international archival organizations.
Digitized parts of the collections, either via relevant Funded Programs or at the Foundation’s own expenses, are freely accessed by researchers.
The educational suitcase of PIOP's Historical Archives aims to support the study of local history by encouraging students to become young researchers. It contains visual material with all the necessary information and instructions so that students can understand the meaning and importance of archival sources and create the Archive of their school, classroom and/or community in the context of a continuous school activity. It also provides career guidance by familiarising students with the disciplines involved in working with archival material.

Access to the archives of the PIOP Historical Archives is free of charge, provided the material is in accordance with applicable legislation, the regulations of the Bank, the terms set by the donor, and provided that the material has been arranged and described. Following the “open archive” policy referring to access archival material, PIOP Historical Archives may allow access to non-arranged material in close cooperation with researchers.
Reproduction of archival material is allowed upon approval and should not exceed 30% of the documents held in each folder.
Photocopying of rare or fragile documents and printed volumes is prohibited. Photocopying is allowed exclusively in the premises of the PIOP Historical Archives and only by designated employees, with no fees on the part of researchers.
Researchers have access to the Reading Room in accordance with the codes of scientific ethics for the promotion of research. To assist researchers, the Historical Archives provide research tools for access to the archival material (catalogue, indexes). The researcher is responsible for the material he hands over following the conclusion of his study. He is accountable for any change in the integrity of the documents. Re-placing the material in the acid-free archival boxes and changing the order of files or documents is strictly prohibited.
Researchers, upon their arrival in the Reading Room, are required to fill out the visitors’ book and place their personal belongings in designated areas. The use of portable computers is permitted in the Reading Room. Researchers are requested to keep noise levels to a minimum, to maintain their working area clean, not consume food and drinks and not use mobile phones.
Researchers who have made use of archival material of the PIOP Historical Archives for the publication of studies or other works must cite it as a source with the indication «Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation│Historical Archives» and are requested to deposit a copy of their study in the Historical Archives. The reproduction of archival material for purposes other than the personal use of the researcher, such as an exhibition, publishing or any other purpose requires the granting of a relevant license.
