B. PIOP acknowledges that cultural heritage is inextricably linked to both economic and social activities and the landscape and the natural and man-made environment. In this context:
- PIOP is committed, through its thematic Museums and the special activities or programmes (national or international) that it implements, to highlight the specific characteristics of the natural and man-made environment, emphasizing their role and importance as well as their management practices for a) the development, promotion and protection of the cultural environment - landscape, which today is either created through modern cultural creativity, or preserved as cultural heritage (material and intangible, industrial, etc.) and b) the development of social and economic activities.
- PIOP fosters environmental awareness and promotes the principles of sustainable development and the rational management of resources, recognizing that addressing contemporary environmental challenges requires synergies between the State, the private sector and civil society.
- To continually implement it in the Museums and the other sites of its activities, aiming, among other things, to prevent pollution, reduce the environmental footprint, save energy, supply energy-efficient products and services and design energy-efficient activities, facilities, equipment and systems.
- To comply with the applicable legal and other regulatory requirements for the environment and energy, in relation to the Foundation's activities and its energy uses and consumption.
- To constantly improve the environmental and energy performance of the Foundation.
- To publish the environmental and energy performance of the Foundation.
- To adopt environmental and energy goals and objectives, which are reviewed on a regular basis.
- To ensure the availability of information and the necessary material and human resources to achieve the Foundation's environmental and energy goals and objectives.
- To implement and evaluate environmental and energy programs aimed at the protection and promotion of the natural and man-made environment, among other things for saving energy and water, promoting renewable energy sources, reducing and recycling waste, reusing materials etc.
- To regularly review and update its environmental and energy policy in light of possible changes in the activities of the Foundation as well as the external environment.
Environmental Certifications
PIOP has developed and implements an Environmental and Energy Management System which organizes, in the most systematic way, the monitoring, management and ultimately the reduction of the environmental impacts related to its activities and the improvement of its energy performance. The Environmental and Energy Management System is implemented in all of PIOP’s buildings and activities.
The first Environmental Statement of the Foundation was verified, in accordance with the requirements of the EMAS Regulation, by the Cyprus Certification Company [reg. no. EMAS ELV-0009 (no. 549)], on 14 March 2014. The Foundation, in accordance with the No. 50486/1466/10.27.2014 Ministerial Decree, was registered in the Greek EMAS Register (registration number EL-000110).
