The work focuses on the Greek populations in the Ottoman Empire and the Venetian possessions. It examines this complex economic world by splitting it into thematic units and temporal categories, that are defined by this world itself: the world of the occupied productive enclaves, its economic position within the power structure dictated by the status quo, its connection with the wider sphere of transactions and the concomitant partial or progressive incorporation in the system, as a creator and as a manager.
