“Morus” Temporary exhibition in the Silk Museum

“Morus” Temporary exhibition in the Silk Museum

The Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation (PIOP) presents the temporary exhibition “Morus” in the Silk Museum, in Soufli, from Wednesday 20 December 2023.

The mulberry tree, the sacred tree in Soufli, is the inspiration behind the exhibition titled “Morus”, which attempts a dialogue between recorded history and oral narratives about silk. The group of artists titled “Morus project” explores the artistic, social, historical and ecological dimensions of silk, starting with domestic sericulture, from the creation of the thread to the weaving process. In direct dialogue with the objects in the permanent exhibition of the Silk Museum, selected works by artists Hanna Norrna, Irini Gkonou and Kleopatra Tsali highlight elements of the area's material culture, such as the architecture and clothing choices of the inhabitants, as well as elements that make up the intangible cultural heritage.

The artworks of the temporary exhibition were presented in the summer of 2023 at the Apoteket gallery on the island of Gotland in Sweden.

Duration: 20 December 2023 to 30 June 2024
Opening hours: Daily, except Tuesday, 10:00-18:00 until 15/10 and 10:00-17:00 from 16/10
