The Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation (PIOP), in collaboration with the Agricultural University of Athens (A.U.A.), presents from Sunday, September 16 the itinerant exhibition "Teaching olive cultivation" at the Foundation's Museum of Industrial Olive-Oil Production of Lesvos in Agia Paraskevi.

It is an exhibition on the history of science, specifically of agricultural science, but also on historical and ethnographic data about the production of olives and olive oil in Greece. The exhibition displays archive material and objects, mostly part of the collection of the Agricultural Museum of the A.U.A., and in particular the collection of the Professor of Arboriculture P. Anagnostopoulos (1883-1964) and his assistant Emmanouíl Váthis (1910-2008).

Visitors can see photographs and drawings on methods of land cultivation, how olive-trees are planted and trimmed, how the olives are gathered, the insects that can harm the olives. The exhibition also displays 32 varieties of olive, exactly as presented by the two teachers, objects used by Emmanouíl Váthis in his workshops, and printed material from the Historical Archives of the Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation and the Agricultural University of Athens.

The exhibition runs from September 16 to October 15, 2018
